Study Abroad Programs
Program Overview & Participation
In collaboration with international universities, HCISR offers faculty-led and short-term study abroad programs that merge academic coursework with hands-on, real-world experience.
Programs are tailored to each institution’s academic focus and may include transferable academic credit through accredited partners.
Participants engage in clinical observation, field-based STEM research, and interdisciplinary placements with local organizations. Depending on their academic interests, they may visit care facilities, collaborate with NGOs supporting vulnerable populations, or contribute to applied research projects connecting health, social, and technical-mathematical disciplines.
These applied programs allow students to deepen academic understanding while developing the empathy, awareness, and critical perspective needed to address global challenges in an informed and ethical way.
Application Process
Open to both individual applicants and institutional partnerships:
- Submit Application – Complete the online form with your field of study, academic level, CV/resume, and personal statement.
- University Nomination (if applicable) – Partner institutions may nominate students or submit a group application.
- Interview & Review – Shortlisted candidates are invited to a short virtual interview.
- Admission Notification – Admission results are released within 2–3 weeks.
- Enrollment & Deposit – Confirm your participation by submitting the enrollment form and deposit payment.
Eligibility
The program is designed for:
• Undergraduate students (2nd year and above)
• Graduate students in health, social, or technical-mathematical sciences
• Recent graduates seeking international exposure in health or research
• Institutional cohorts and faculty-led programs (custom options available)
Eligible fields include Pre-med, Nursing, Public Health, Psychology, Occupational/Physical Therapy, Social Work, Anthropology, Global Health, Nutrition, and STEM disciplines such as Mathematics, Engineering, and Computer Science.
Academic Credit
Eligible participants in HCISR’s academic programs can receive academic credit and official transcripts through our partner universities.
- Credit-Bearing Programs
Students enrolled in Ascle+ academic tracks may earn 3–6 U.S. semester credits, issued through an accredited partner university.
These courses integrate seminars, supervised research or fieldwork, and reflective assessment, ensuring academic rigor and transferable learning outcomes.
- Certificate of Completion
All participants receive an official HCISR Certificate of Completion stating their total contact and fieldwork hours, learning outcomes, and program focus area (basket).
This document can support internship validation, university recognition, or professional development portfolios.
- Shorter Programs and Home University Credit
Students joining non-credit or short-term programs (e.g. 2-week intensive seminars, research labs, or faculty-led sessions) may still apply for credit transfer through their home university.
We recommend that students consult their academic advisor or study abroad office prior to enrollment to determine eligibility and required documentation.
- Guidance and Support
Applicants interested in earning credit should indicate this during the application process.
HCISR’s Academic Team will help align the program structure and syllabus with your academic requirements to ensure a smooth credit approval and transcript process.
Tuition & Student Support
Program fees vary by offering and are listed on each program page.
Typically included:
• Academic tuition and materials
• Local coordination, orientation, and 24/7 on-site support
• Administrative costs, program management, and selected site visits
Not automatically included:
• International travel to/from Athens
• Personal expenses, optional excursions, and most meals (unless stated otherwise)
• Visa fees, personal insurance, and vaccinations
Scholarships
Limited need-based scholarships or discounts may be available; check the programme page.
Local Support & Orientation
• Neighborhood orientation and metro card upon arrival
• 24/7 local support by the HCISR team
• Optional group dinners and cultural excursions for community building
Student Housing
Participants stay in fully furnished shared apartments (up to 3 students per unit), featuring:
- Kitchen, laundry facilities, and Wi-Fi
- Locations within 10–20 minutes by metro from the academic center
- Safe neighborhoods such as Pangrati, Koukaki
- Access to metro, tram, and bus lines
Life in Athens
Athens offers a vibrant mix of ancient heritage and modern urban life. Fellows will enjoy:
- Local cafes, tavernas, and open-air markets
- Easy access to landmarks such as the Acropolis and National Gardens
- Walkable, student-friendly neighborhoods with bookstores, squares, and artisan shops
